Mark Paine is Reader in Insect Biochemistry and works on:
- Research on molecular mechanisms of insecticide resistance and to translate this knowledge into practical solutions for tropical diseases. Mosquitoes and sandflies are the major focus, being responsible for the transmission of malaria, arboviruses and leishmaniasis.
- The identification of proteins associated with resistance and the investigation on how the detoxification process works to develop diagnostics for predicting and monitoring resistance.
- The development of diagnostics for detection and monitoring of insecticides (Insecticide Quantification Kits) in connection with the Innovative Vector Control Consortium (IVCC) for the production of improved insecticides, formulations and decision support tools to reduce disease transmission.
